When you first put your engagement ring on, it’s shiny and sparkly. However, after months of applying hand cream and washing dishes, it can lose some of its shine. Whether you are preparing for your engagement shoot or your wedding day, here are some tips to help you get your engagement ring looking good as new again.

How Often to Clean It?

Cleaning your engagement ring once a year is enough to keep it looking beautiful. However, if you are preparing for a special occasion, it’s ok to clean it prior to the day. If you are adamant that it stays sparkly all year long, aim to clean it every second month.

Cleaning Your Engagement Ring

To keep your ring clean, you will need a soft toothbrush, washing up liquid, a small bowl, and warm water.

Follow these steps to clean your ring:

Place the warm water in the bowl with some of the washing up liquid and soak the ring for about 30 minutes.

Next, use the toothbrush to gently scrub the stone and setting.

You can rinse the ring under warm running water. Make sure the plug is secure.

If your ring still doesn’t shine as much, repeat the process.

You can now let your ring dry naturally or use a hairdryer on medium heat.

Caring for Your Engagement Ring||

You can use the above cleaning process on most hard, precious stones, including rubies, diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds. If your ring contains a pearl, rather take it to a jeweler.

It’s best not to use any substances such as vinegar, bleach, toothpaste, baking soda, or acetone to clean your ring – this could cause scratches.

On a day-to-day basis, make sure that you are protecting your ring when performing activities such as gardening or when using harsh chemicals. Remove your ring or wear gloves to prevent lasting damage.

In terms of storing your ring, opt for a dry, fabric-lined box or a soft pouch.

If at any point your stone looks loose or you knock your ring against something hard, store it and get it checked by a jeweler.

If you prefer not to clean your ring yourself, any reputable jeweler can do it for you.
