Your bouquet is an essential part of your wedding outfit, one that can be hard to get rid of, especially because you spent so much time choosing every part of it to make your flowers truly match who you are and the style of your wedding. The good news is that there is no need to throw away your wedding bouquet!
Many brides don’t realize that it’s possible to keep their bouquets for years if they really wanted to and it’s much easier than you might think.
Here is what you can do to preserve your wedding flowers, whether this is your bouquet or some of your other arrangements.
Hang Them Up to Dry
Air-drying your wedding flowers is one of the easiest ways to keep them around for longer. Once you unwrap your bouquet and cut away any ties, hang the flowers individually in a dry area. If the weather is warm, you can dry them out in about a week. It will take longer if the air is cooler. You can now keep them in a vase or incorporate them into the rest of your home’s décor.
Dip Them in Wax
While this won’t preserve your flowers for as long as drying will, it’s still an option. Besides how they feel, you will hardly notice that your flowers are a few months old. For this process, you will need a saucepan and some paraffin wax. Start by melting the wax until you get a smooth consistency. Wait for the mixture to cool slightly – it should be warm. You can now start dipping your flowers into the wax solution. As soon as each bloom is coated, remove it, and hang it upside down to dry.
Press Them
So many little girls used to press flowers when they were younger, and we often forget that it’s still an option when you’re older. And believe it or not, it is possible to press an entire bouquet, you just need some wax paper and a few heavy objects such as books. Once they are dry and pressed, you can arrange them again.
Purchase Some Silica Gel
The final way that you can preserve your flowers is to submerge them in silica gel. These porous granules will absorb the moisture in your wedding flowers, leaving them dry in about a week. This method will also leave your flowers looking almost the same as they did on your big day. You will need a container that’s big enough to fit your bouquet. From there, simply create a base of silica gel before placing your flowers in it. Don’t forget to seal the container.
There you have it – 4 simple ways to enjoy your wedding flowers forever, or at least longer. Want something more? Check Etsy and your local makers for someone who preserves flowers and bouquets in epoxy!
