Winter will be here before you know it and if you’re planning to get married during this time, you’re probably in the final planning stages. This means you can start focusing on the finer details such as the types of photos you want to capture on the day.

I have so many beautiful memories of winter weddings over the years and they is just something extra magical about them! Often Mother Natures chooses just the perfect moment to send a little sprinkling of snow in the middle of the ceremony for the final touch!

Snow is one of the highlights of getting married during the winter months and if you’re planning to take full advantage, here are some special photos to consider.

Get adventurous

If you’re getting married somewhere on or near a mountain, put on some skis and show off your adventurous side in your photos. You could even jump on a sled, sleigh, or ski-doo for something more playful.

Plan an outdoor first look

A first look is already special, so imagine what your photos would look like with a few soft snowflakes falling around you. Taking your portraits outside will give you the same effect. Plus, there’s the bonus of beautiful winter skies. Don’t forget to keep track on time so you aren’t late for your ceremony!

Capture your accessories

Cozy hats and furry jackets make for beautiful bridal accessories, so don’t forget to capture a few photos with them. To really highlight the crispness of your white wedding dress, you could take these bridal portraits in the snow.

Have a snowy toast

After your ceremony, why not head out into the snow with your beloved and have a toast in the snow? This is a unique photo that you will definitely treasure. As an alternative, you can cuddle up in front of a fire with some cocoa or a glass of wine.

Bring in natural elements

To highlight your wedding winter theme, add natural elements to your décor or incorporate them into your detail photographs. Think pinecones with your engagement ring.

Fluff up your train

For a romantic, fairy tale photograph, fluff your wedding dress train in some snow. Another idea is to get someone in your bridal party to gently throw some fake snow over you as you enjoy the moments before you walk down the aisle.

Capture the landscape

If your wedding venue has an impressive mountain backdrop, consider capturing some of your couple portraits in front of it.

Since you will be venturing outside for these shots, don’t forget to plan your footwear accordingly. You may be able to wear high heels for your ceremony, but you will definitely need boots for the outdoor shots.

And don’t worry about ruining your wedding dress by taking these outdoor photos either – it is only frozen water after all!

Not into the outdoors but want the same winter feel? Now is the time to hit the dollars stores for bags of fake snow for your confetti toss! Don’t forget to have someone designated to sweep up after!
